* This talk has been rescheduled from Dec 2009  to the new date above *

Gary O’Conner graduated in 2007 from an MA in writing the visual at Norwich School of Art and Design. His work deals with ideas around deceit, pretence and contradiction, often set within a historical context. A sense of narrative and storytelling is very important to him: he works across disciplines often combining readymade objects with audio and text.

Inherent Sin, O'Conner's recent show, was showing at northcabin  in December 2009.

Gary O' Connor intends to use the cabin as a stage set creating a fictional set-up within the space. Employing the use of everyday domestic materials and combining these with sound and unexpected events the work will change over the course of the exhibition. O’Connor began researching the history of Redcliffe Bridge and surrounding area discovering that the bridge was built at the outbreak of the Second World War and survived whilst Bristol was heavily bombed. From this initial research O’Connor has gone on to write a short piece of prose that forms the backbone of the project, expanding into the physical installation inside the cabin: The more I contemplate the cabin, the bridge, and the dark murky waters below; the more it conjures up thoughts of intrigue, suspense and mystery. O’Connor’s aim is to introduce a sense of theatre into the space, whilst at the same time explore its historical context and its relationship to the surrounding landscape.
