As recipient of the Henry Moore Fellowship 2001, Jacqueline Donachie presented an exhibition of new work for Spike Island. Based in Glasgow, the artist’s response to Bristol was an exploration of the geographical, cultural and climatic associations of SOUTH.

The Silk Purse Procedure

The first exhibition collaboration between Arnolfini and Spike Island resulted in an international group exhibition spanning both sites. The project brought together a range of work in which the original meaning or form of an object is lost through a process of transformation.

Spike Island Open Studios 2001

This was the fourth Open Studios at Spike Island. Over 100 artists working in a range of media including painting, sculpture, printmaking, moving image and installation opened their studios to the public for this annual Mayday weekend event.

Invitational

Six artists were invited to take up residence for one month at Spike Island to produce new work for an exhibition in the central exhibition space.  Artists included in Invitational were selected by Spike Island Curatorial Resident 2000, Juliana Engberg and Director, Kay Campbell.

Squeeze
