VANiSH: See Thru

Damien Roach

Damien Roach’s  commission for Spike Island made use of the VANiSH van, modified in 2004 by artist Ashley McCormick.  For See-Thru, unveiled on Friday 4th November 2005 at Spike Island, Roach covered the van in a reflective, chrome-like laminate. The material fits the contours and crevices of the ex forces vehicle almost as if it were sprayed.

Gulbenkian Foundation Production Residency 2005

Thanks to the generous support of the Gulbenkian Foundation, London, Spike Island was able to host two artist studio Fellowships in 2005. Pedro Barateiro was selected in early 2005 and spent three months working at Spike Island during the spring and early summer.

Launch of Journal: Attitudes of Exchange

For a year, a group of 12 artists and others working within the contemporary visual arts in Bristol researched and developed a series of projects at Spike Island. Three members of that group, Nemia Brooks, Rachel Connelly and Amy Feneck went on to form an editorial team to establish Journal.

ART TEA was an afternoon event where Annabel gave away tea and cakes to exhausted shoppers as they waited in line to catch their buses home.  The tea cups were designed in a limited edition by the artist and all those participating were be able to keep one and take it home.
