Porto based artist, André Sousa, spent three months  at Spike Island in 2007 for his residency funded by the Gulbenkian Foundation.

Can Altay undertook a three month residency at Spike Island between July and October 2007, selected from an open submission call to Turkish artists, in partnership with Platform Garanti, Contemporary Art Centre, Istanbul.

Flash In The Metropolitan was originally commissioned by Spike Island with BVAC as one of a series of new works for the British Art Show 6 in Bristol and screened as part of the Spike in the City off-site programme in 2006.

WORKING THINGS OUT was the first group show to take place at Spike Island since the re-launch of the galleries in February 2007. The exhibition brought together seven British artists working in the field of contemporary sculpture.

The Arts Council England : South West Residency offers a UK based artist a three month production residency and solo exhibition at Spike Island. Ruth Claxton was the first artist to be awarded this prestigious residency after Spike Island ’s re-launch in January 2007

Mahali O’Hare was the first recipient of the Rootstein Hopkins Award. The exhibition, Kindling Wood was commissioned by Spike Island as part of the award.

Mark Lewis’ films are remarkable not only for their rich and highly seductive qualities, but also for their extraordinary ability to undermine those characteristics that define mainstream and avant-garde cinema.

INTERexchange – Helsinki to Bristol and back again, brought together the work of three artists from Helsinki and four artists from Bristol. Olli Keränen, Terhi Heino, Tanja Koistila, Karen Di Franco, Toby Huddlestone, John Lawrence, Lisa Scantlebury.

In 2006 Spike Island missed its' Open Studios event as it was in the middle of a major £1.25m building development. The 2007 Open event was the first opportunity, since the completion of the refurbishment, for the public to see the full impact of the changes.
