Responses: three approaches to one space is a new series of commissions curated by Spike Island Associate Katherine Daley-Yates. This title describes the process of three artists responding consecutively to the particular dimensions of the Project Space, each with a limited time to develop work.

Matt White was selected as the recipient of the Rootstein Hopkins Artist's Award 2008, which supports Bristol based artists to develop their first major solo show. In his wider practice he frequently acts as the protagonist of his own work, exploring the physiological effects of self-induced, altered states.

This is the first time these Turner Prize winning artists have exhibited together. Both works are site specific and driven by interaction with the Bristol landscape, reflecting a series journeys and processes made by each artist outside the gallery.
